Siglo Group is an ecological planning, design, and restoration firm based in Austin, TX, with an office in Salt Lake City, UT. We are growing our on-the-ground restoration practice, and this role is central to that.
Role Description
We are hiring Land Stewards to do hands-on restoration work on the Barton Creek Greenbelt and other Central Texas natural areas. You work as part of a small crew under our Land Stewardship Manager: trail work, invasive species removal, native seeding and planting, and erosion control. You also help run the volunteer events that are central to how we do this work.
This is real field work, contributing to better parks and preserves. You will use tools, get dirty, and end most days tired and able to point at exactly what you did.

- First hand, the impacts of human use in sensitive areas, how water shapes and damages infrastructure, and how good planning and design create more sustainable trails, roads, and places where people can get into nature without wearing it out.
What You’ll Do
- Trail work and mechanical invasive species removal. This is the core of the day-to-day.
- Native seeding and planting, and woodland and savanna restoration.
- Erosion control and riparian work.
- Small electric chainsaw work on woody invasives.
- Help run volunteer events: setting up, demonstrating techniques, and keeping groups safe and productive.
- Care for tools and field equipment.
- You will be working in the greenbelt. Greenbelt work means working among the public: trail users, dogs on and off leash, and cyclists, often at close quarters. Steep limestone, changing weather, and loose footing are routine.
Who This is Good For
Students and young professionals in ecology, biology, environmental studies, landscape architecture, civil engineering, and environmental engineering.
If you plan on restoring, designing, or planning landscapes or infrastructure, a season spent building trail, stabilizing slopes, and restoring woodland will change what you put on a plan. Very few people who design this work have ever built it.
Schedule
- 15 to 30 hours a week, in 5 to 6 hour shifts, 3 to 5 days a week. We build your schedule around your needs and the needs of the rest of the crew. We set it in advance so you can plan.
- At least three Saturdays a month. Saturdays are when volunteers come out, and the volunteer days turn out to be the part of this job most people care about most. If Saturdays do not work for your life, this is not the right job, and we would rather you know that now than in November.
- Weather stops work. Your Manager makes the call on heat and rain-event stop-work, and we follow it.
- We expect to extend strong Stewards through May, and we will tell you where you stand by early November. Stewards who continue into the spring take on more responsibility, including helping lead volunteer events.
What We’re Looking For
- A proven desire to work in ecological restoration, ecological design, ecological planning, landscape architecture, or civil engineering. Show us how: coursework, volunteering, prior work, or your own projects.
- Willingness to work hard and show up reliably.
- Ability to do physical work: full days outdoors, uneven and steep ground, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be available.
- Reliable transportation to field sites. If getting there is your only barrier, talk to us. We can usually work something out.
Compensation and Benefits:
- $22.50 to $25 per hour, depending on experience.
- Siglo provides PPE, safety training, and workers’ compensation coverage.
